2008 marks the 35th anniversary of the Vinifera Wine Growers Association. Established in 1973, VWGA was an early supporter of planting world-class Vinifera
wine grapes, the production of quality commercial wines, and the building of a
wine industry along the Eastern seaboard. Today, the VWGA is a national and
international wine trade association that works with state and national
legislatures to resolve issues that challenge the U.S. wine industry. Its
efforts include:
The Virginia Wine Festival, now in its 33rd year, is our celebration of the success of Virginia wine. It is the oldest wine festival on the East Coast, conducted as a fund-raiser to support the viticulture community through advocacy, education, promotion and support. The Vinifera Wine Growers Association contributes all festival proceeds to viticulture educational forums and research, Virginia education programs and Commonwealth Antiquity Preservation projects. As host of the Virginia Wine Festival, we invite you to join us at Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas to enjoy this special celebration of the harvest and help us kick off Virginia Wine Month in style.
